Operations Analysis
Operations analysis is our term to cover the following business tools and services:Productivity, Recovery and Profitability Assessment
Productivity, Recovery and Profitability Assessment
Assessments support corporate management with:
- Capital planning and project prioritizing
- Capital project audits to confirm payback
- Assessment of Return on Capital Employed (ROCE)
We use very advanced analytical techniques, including:
- Multiple regression
- Statistical sampling, including material flow and quality control sampling to ensure that our analysis can stand up to scrutiny for statistical accuracy and correctness
- Discounted cash flow (Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return)

Continuous Improvement Programs
Our continuous improvement programs:
- Seek out critical machine capacities and other opportunities in a mill
- Set up measures of performance for those machines and monitor them
- Implement low or no-cost solutions (including engineered solutions for technical problems) to improve effectiveness
- Re-assess opportunities and re-run the process
We provide on-site personnel with in-mill work experience to implement and facilitate these programs.
We recognize that most of the improvements are accomplished by harnessing the knowledge of the people that work with the equipment. A large part of our process involves working with mill workers to facilitate the solutions and to give them appropriate, unbiased and immediate feedback as to how the application of their knowledge has impacted mill performance.
Product line development includes:
- Assessment of new product lines to compare profitability with existing lines. Much of this assessment is done with data from one of our Recovery and Yield Studies.
- Operator training for the new product (e.g. MSR or lamstock)
- Quality control procedures, manuals and training.
